Ship Support Limited

About me, Peter Elsom

Born in Kingston-upon-Hull on Monday 24th May 1948. I lived on Hessle Road for the majority of my younger days before moving to Wold Road at the Age of 13. I attended Constable Street Infants and Junior school, before going to The Boulevard High School. Upon leaving school I found employment with the United Towing Company, where I served on their fleet of harbour and sea going tugs.
I had a period ashore, whilst my daughter was growing up and during that time I worked as a pressure tester on telephone cables, a forklift driver at a dairy, a site clerk on a building site, a stock control/buyer at a portable building manufacturer. I worked for a short time for British Aerospace before taking on the tenancy of the public house The fox Inn at Ulceby in North Lincolnshire. from here I had a short spell as a security officer at Immingham docks, before returning to a life at sea.
Ten years were spent on rig support vessels before I left and set up my own company "Ship Support Limited" which I am still a director of. I now have a contract with SMS Towage of Hessle, East Yorkshire. who operate 9 sea going and harbour tugs. My main involvment is with the International Safety Management side, where I am the DPA, the link between office and vessels. I also I am involved with the planned maintenance of the vessels, survey work and other aspects of the management of the vessels.
Ship support Limited has been involved with photography for many years , mainly that of Maritime photography and have supplied Images to many of the shipping publications on sale in the United Kingdom. We have recently diversified and also cover Industrial photography.
